How to Get a US Phone Number with Numsify

Getting a US phone number with Numsify takes a few minutes. You rent the number on the website or in the app, and it stays yours for the plan you choose.
The short version:
- Open numsify.com or install the Numsify app on Android or iPhone.
- Create an account or sign in.
- Add balance on the top-up page.
- Choose the United States and open the details of an available number.
- Pick a 1-month, 3-month or 6-month plan and confirm the rental.
The sections below walk through each platform in more detail, then cover what the number can do, how the plans differ and who it suits best.
How to get a US phone number on the website
The website is the quickest route if you are at a computer, and everything you rent there also shows up in the app.
- Go to numsify.com in any modern browser.
- Create an account or sign in. If you are new, the same screen creates your account.
- Open the top-up page and add balance using the payment methods shown there. The rental is paid from this balance.
- Choose to rent a number and select the United States from the country list.
- Browse the available numbers and open one to see its details.
- Choose the plan length that fits how long you need the number.
- Confirm the rental. The number appears in your account straight away, ready to receive messages.
Keep the browser tab open while you sign up for whatever you rented the number for, so you can watch incoming texts arrive.
How to get a US phone number on Android
Number rental works the same in the Android app as on the website, so you can pick whichever is closer to hand.
- Install the Numsify app from Google Play (on iPhone, get it from the App Store; you can also rent on numsify.com).
- Open the app and sign in, or create an account.
- Add balance from the app or on the top-up page.
- Tap to rent a number and choose the United States.
- Open the details of an available number and check what it supports.
- Select a 1-month, 3-month or 6-month plan and confirm.
- Allow notifications if the app asks, so you see new texts as they come in.
If you plan to make internet calls on an eligible number, also allow microphone access if the app asks.
How to get a US phone number on iOS
On iPhone the steps mirror Android; get the app on the App Store.
- Download the Numsify app from the App Store.
- Sign in with the same account you use on the website, or create a new one.
- Make sure your balance covers the plan, topping up if needed.
- Choose the United States and pick an available number.
- Review the number's details, then choose your plan length.
- Confirm the rental and the number appears on your home screen in the app.
- Allow notifications and, for calls on eligible numbers, microphone access if the app asks.
Before you confirm a rental
The number details screen is the most useful step in the whole process, so do not skip it. It shows what that particular number supports, and capabilities differ by number, country and provider. If you need the number for a specific service, this is where you confirm it will work. Some local rental numbers may not support social media verification, so check the details before you rent a number for a social or messaging app. Some numbers may require ID verification under local rules.
A US number has an area code like any other American number. The code is part of the ten-digit format and gives a rough sense of a region, but it does not change how texts arrive or how the number works day to day. If you are curious about what the codes mean, our guide to US area codes explains them in general terms.
Features
Once the number is in your account, here is what you can do with it.
| Feature | Status in Numsify |
|---|---|
| Number rental on the website, Android and iOS | Available |
| Receive SMS on a rented number | Available |
| Sending SMS | Each number's supported features, such as receiving or sending SMS, are shown before you buy. |
| Internet voice calls, outgoing and incoming | Available on eligible rented numbers |
| Number details page before you rent | Available; shows what that particular number supports |
Two-way texting and internet calls depend on the number, country, provider and destination, which is another reason to read the details screen first. Internet calls are available on eligible rented numbers and need an internet connection and the relevant permissions on your device.
Where your messages show up
Texts to the number land in your Numsify inbox. You can read them in the app or on the website, and with notifications on you see them as soon as they arrive. There is no need to forward anything or keep a second phone powered on.
Keeping the number useful over time
A US number is most valuable when it stays with you. Many services send a fresh code when you log in from a new device or reset a password, and those codes go to whatever number is on the account. If you use the number for sign-ups, note which accounts depend on it, and keep the rental active for as long as any of them matter to you. A short list in your notes app is enough, and it saves guesswork later when you decide which plan length to choose next.
Plans
Numsify offers three plan lengths for a US number. Choose by how long you expect to use it, not just by the first thing you need it for, since a number you keep is a number you can verify again later.
| Plan | Best when | Price |
|---|---|---|
| 1-month | You need a US number for a short project, a trip or a trial run | See current prices: website · App Store · Current prices: Numsify website · Google Play · App Store |
| 3-month | You want time to settle in before committing longer | See current prices: website · App Store · Current prices: Numsify website · Google Play · App Store |
| 6-month | The number is tied to accounts or contacts you plan to keep | See current prices: website · App Store · Current prices: Numsify website · Google Play · App Store |
Subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel them. For a side-by-side look at how the lengths compare, read our guide to phone number rental plans.
Best for
People living or studying outside the US

Remote workers and freelancers
Giving US clients a local-looking number keeps work contact separate from your personal line and makes you easier to reach.
Online sellers and small businesses
A dedicated US number for orders and customer questions keeps business messages in one place.
Messaging app users
If your main goal is WhatsApp, the details differ enough that we cover them separately in our guide to how to rent a US number for WhatsApp.
Frequently asked questions
Should I share a code sent to my US number if someone asks for it?
No. Never share a verification code with anyone, including people who say they are from support. A code sent to your number is meant only for you, and passing it on can give someone else access to your account.
What happens to the number if I cancel?
A number that is no longer rented may be given to someone else, who could then receive texts meant for you. Before you cancel, move any important accounts, such as banking, email or messaging logins, to another number.
What if no available number shows the feature I need?
Check the list again a little later, as available numbers change. If you still cannot find a suitable one, contact us and tell us what you need the number for.
Will people know the number is rented?
To the person texting or calling you, it looks like any other US number with a normal +1 country code.
